To quote from local tourist guides.. "The jewel of the South Coast, Bournemouth is nestled along a vast and impressive coastline. It offers sweeping panoramic views over the sea from the majestic clifftops, golden sandy beaches and lush, green rolling hills in the surrounding Dorset countryside. Together, Bournemouth and Poole boast 10 miles of golden sand and the impressive beaches form part of one of the most celebrated expanses of British coastline. Stretching out to the west towards Devon and Cornwall, the world famous Jurassic Coast is beset with picturesque seaside towns and villages including Swanage, Weymouth and West Bay. Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast has achieved UNESCO World Heritage status. Bournemouth is close to two AONBs – Cranborne Chase and the West Wiltshire Downs to the north and Dorset to the west." Poole Harbour is one of the best places in the world for sailing and Weymouth was home to the 2012 Olympic Sailing events. Given the area surrounding the airport, it is a shame that the airport offers very little in the way of facilities for visiting light GA. GA Handling is on the North side of the airport, far away from car hire on the south side near the passenger terminal. It is a 10 minute walk to a bus-stop at the Park Cafe in the industrial area (www.yellowbuses.co.uk and search for 737 route). Hangarage may be available from maintenance organisations. ATC are very, very good but you might be held whilst they deal with commercial traffic.
