What to do An old Roman town (Augustodonum), with some remaining ruins (Temple de Janus, Theatre Romain, Porte d’Arroux, Porte Saint André) and a couple of museums. Farther afield is the pre-Roman settlement of Bibracte on the Mont Beuvray (museum and hillfort), but this will definitely need a car. The Morvan is great for outdoor stuff, hills, forests, rivers etc, but impossible without transport. Club website has numbers for taxi companies, but a lift is quite likely. Also, there’s a noticeboard next to the main door of the clubhouse that has adverts for local attractions, restaurants, taxis. The tourist office website is really good: https://www.autun-tourisme.com/. The cathedral is famous, and it’s a nice town to walk around. Fuel 100LL available when someone from the club is there. Alternatively there’s a petrol station 1km toward Autun for Mogas, but it contains ethanol.
Food Just off the roundabout to the south west is La Cafette restaurant, the best if not going into Autun itself. Directly opposite the aérodrome gate is La Clef des Champs, but I’ve heard bad things about opening times and level of service. The main square (La Place du Champ de Mars) has plenty of brasseries, all pretty good. At night Le Lutrin next to the Cathedral has a bar in the cellar.
