Online PPR at https://egfd.onlineppr.com/request.php where you leave aircraft, contact, and payment details. You’re only charged once you confirm you’ve landed. I was initially sceptical, but it’s streamlined and contactless. Fuel is also self-service.
Three big runways in good condition. It’s not clear, but parking for visitors is to the north in front of the big hangars. The exit is to the east, through a portacabin with doors each side of the airfield fence. Don’t forget to take a photo of the entry code before leaving. The most convenient airport for the Mach Loop, and beautiful scenery all around.
There’s bicycle hire nearby https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Bicycle-Shop/Snowdonia-Cycles-621768511251824/ and a train station to go north or south along the coast (request stop, i.e. you flag down the train). There’s a campsite at Shell Island beach also in walking distance.
Driving to the beach, there were signs advertising Llanfair Slate Caverns and Rhaeadr Nantcol Waterfalls.
