The airfield appears to be a well-run weekend recreational aeroclub. Mid-week access is available via website page PPR. My request one week ahead was confirmed two days before our visit, involving a radio operator/flugleiter attending to announce runway/wind etc. and remotely switch on the pumps. 15 Euros for each of arrival and departure. The airfield has a hard runway centred in a large open grass area and is also used for occasional commercial activity mid-week but was otherwise quiet. Grass parking was a little rough but satisfactory. Electricity pylons nearby. AIP states nil noise abatement but worth reading the club website to avoid overflying the city etc. Although RNP instrument approaches are published, they are not available for PPL operations and really only used by the based commercial pilots a few times a year when weather mandates it. Staff were friendly and helpful while we were there and were flexible to accommodate changed departure time due weather revised the evening before. Bamberg city itself has many attractive buildings and worth spending a day for tourism.
