Airport restaurant Mistral has good food and the owners are nice and always up for a chat. Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed on the weekend and weekdays only open from 11am to 5pm.

Freiburg is a nice little airfield in the Rhine valley close to the Black Forest and Alsace (France). The city is worth a day trip, e.g. to visit the old town with the grand cathedral or hike up Schauinsland.
As with many airports that are this close to the city noise is an issue, so be sure to follow the official circuit. Typically straight-in approaches via the city will not be allowed because of noise and helicopters approaching the hospital (right at the end of final 34). However, when approaching from the south you typically can directly join base via the train tracks. Parking on grass. Flugleiter was nice and payment process was fast.
