The airfield is laid back and with no problems. It wasn't "FR-only" but there was a friend on the radio who spoke English; I am not sure how well it would have worked otherwise.
The area is very scenic and would be great for a number of days' stay and exploring.
No Immigration so I stopped at Caen (both ways) but that's a hassle now too since they put in 24hr PNR for the police...
