A decent little airport. It used to be a military field a long time ago, so you can see the ruins if you look closely enough. The abandoned barracks buildings were used as facilities to house migrants.
It is a bit outside Mainz and in the farmland, but it's pretty much as close as you're going to get to the Frankfurt Metro area with GA not counting Egelsbach of course. The bus stop is about 500m from the flightline.
Airspace is under one of the rings of EDDF airspace. If you take off on RW08 you have to turn right almost immediately to avoid the ETOU CTR. Airport itself is under the 3500ft rung of the EDDF airspace, but if you stray too far east above 1500ft you can anger radar control.
EDFZ charges for everything, even low approaches even though there are no instrument approaches on the field.
