The airfield Tarmac strip on a much larger disused RAF runway. Landing fee payable through the window next to the C door. Long grass on the parking. Shobdon village A short walk uphill past apple orchards: there's a village shop and post office with children's play area next door, but little else. Church of Saint John the Evangelist Up a private road opposite the Bateman Arms (closed). It has a unique and perfectly preserved Rococo Georgian interior - like a doll's house, and a surprise compared to the exterior. The narthex has guidebooks for church and arches, plus local walks, and a very modern contactless terminal for donations. Shobdon arches A little farther past the church up a grassy avenue. The chancel arch and two doorways from the previous 12th century church had intricate Romanesque carvings, so were relocated as a folly when the new church was built. Stunning at this time of year with low light and autumn colours. Pembridge village Recommended by the lovely lady who took the landing fee, but didn't visit (the south-west village on the noise abatement diagram). White-and-black timbered houses, some restaurants, and an art gallery, but is 50 minutes' walk. Taxis are listed here https://shobdonairfield.co.uk/aero/local-amenities/
