The airport is one of the most scenic anywhere. And it normally functions well. On this visit the avgas truck was there even before I shut the engine down.
It operates a "totally hard" PPR regime and if you don't follow it they will deny a landing clearance! You must get this permit in writing; a phone call is not enough.
I have been to LGKR many times. This visit was the last before Fraport (of Germany) took over most money-making Greek airports and hugely increased their costs. LGKR went up to about €400, but due to the continuous efforts of Greek AOPA has come down again to something like €150 for landing. So you need to enquire to check the latest situation. A colleague paid €450 for just a fuel stop at Rhodes LGRP in 2018.
The town is very nice too, with plenty to do and see. It is a bit crowded with tourists and as a result the quality of the food is variable - same as Zakynthos and for the same reason there. This is unusual for Greece.
There is a castle on the hill which is well worth a visit.
If staying longer, rent a car and drive around the island.
